Hungary: Organic farming growing, but still under EU average

According to data compiled by Eurostat, the proportion of agricultural Hungarian arceage utilized for organic farming stood at 3.7% in 2017, a little more than half of the 7.0% average rate for the European Union as a whole.

The rate was 14.1% in the Czech Republic, 9.9% in Slovakia, and 3.4% in Poland. The highest rate in the EU (23.4%) was in Austria.

Bbj.hu put it in absolute terms: There were 199,700 hectares of utilized agricultural area in Hungary given over to organic farming, up 53% from 2012, among the fastest rates of growth in the region and in Europe.
