AGTools is presenting its innovative tool at Fruit Logistica, the international produce trade show and conference taking place from February 6-February 8, 2019 in Berlin.
AGTool’s presentation will be part of the Fruit Logistica’s first annual Start-up Day, which focuses on presenting exciting new ideas and innovative market ready solutions with the potential to “disrupt agriculture.” Key industry players including partners, producers, and retailers will attend to learn more about the latest tools focused on making their life easier. AGTools is one of 20 international organizations invited to present. AGTools is one of only two US firms selected by IFT to present at the event.
“We are excited that Fruit Logistica invited us to introduce AGTools on the world stage,” says AGTools founder and CEO Martha Montoya. “This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how our offering can have a meaningful impact on the industry.”
With the ultimate goal of saving farmers, AGTools leverages time sensitive data to provide farmers with actionable information presented on an easy to read dashboard. It utilizes 67 key factors drawn from an array of sources including government agencies, weather services (both at destination and origin), exchange rates, fuel prices and various consumer indexes. The tool analyzes all of these data points to provide meaningful insights that can impact buyer decisions when getting food to market.
Rather than focusing entirely on the farmer or the supermarket, AGTools addresses the need for 360 degree thinking by better managing the supply chain. “If a buyer decides to buy too much or too little of any one product it has a ripple effect on the market. Unfortunately, the farmer is the one who is hit hardest. Because of the science behind our tool, we have the ability to make a significant difference,” says Montoya. “We are addressing the inefficiencies, turning knowledge into power, through real-time, data-based decision making. Fortunately, the end result is a reduction of food waste.”
Properly utilized, AGTools can serve as a key component to addressing major communication gaps existing today between farmers and food retailers. AGTools provides buyers with real-time data needed to improve buying decisions. Specifically, it empowers buyers with market options each day in terms of product availability, surplus, shortfalls as well as basis for shifts in pricing. By providing farmers with real data, the opportunity exists to better plan harvests, which translates to better profits and less waste.
