China: "Apple prices are expected to continue rising until October."

“Before 2017, China’s main export markets for apples were India and Indonesia, followed by the Philippines and Bangladesh. Since then, with the closure of the Indian market, there has been a lot of volatility in the sales market structure and for the prices of Chinese apples. That is also true for us, especially in terms of export volumes,” said Jenny Ma of the Qixia City Hanji Trading Company in an interview with Freshplaza.

“Last year, affected by several extreme weather events, especially the cold snap around the time of the Qingming Festival, most of China’s apple producing areas have reduced production to varying degrees. In general, the production cuts have reached 30%-40%. This has led to the rising price of apples. Demand in the domestic market has been good and, although our export volume fell last year, the strong demand of the Chinese domestic market is enough to make up for this part of the sales." "Sales will increase as the Spring Festival approaches. After the Spring Festival, until the new round of apple production starts in October, it is expected that the rising trend of Apple's price will continue. The price of apples in the new season should not be much more volatile than in 2018."

“As an apple grower, packager and exporter, we have our own planting base, cold storage and packaging workshop. The main varieties we supply are Fuji, Gala, Red Star and Qin Guaj. Among these, Fuji has the highest market popularity. At this stage our apples are mainly sold to wholesale markets and supermarkets in domestic first and second-tier cities, and are also exported to Southeast Asian countries."

In order to expand the overseas market, the company will participate in the Fruit Logistica exhibition held in Berlin, Germany in February, when the company team will wait for visitors at its booth Hall 5.2 / C-13a.
