Slight growth for the Fino and volume recovery for the Verna

Spain: Lemon production estimated at 1.3 million tons

The third lemon harvest estimate from AILIMPO (Interprofessional Organization for Lemon and Grapefruit in Spain) confirms the figures published back in September. According to the estimate, the total harvest will amount to 1,300,000 tons. There will be a slight increase in the Fino lemon production and a volume recovery for the Verna.

Outlook
For the second half of the season, the Fino lemon is expected to see a pick-up in the demand and a greater harvest rate.

Regarding the Verna variety, the volume will be comparable to that of 2017 and is expected to amount to 380,000 tons. With this, Spain could consolidate as a leading supplier in Europe this summer, in the period from May to August. The country continues to hold an undeniable leadership position, with high-quality lemons, health guarantees and an excellent service.

In spite of the estimated production figure, the lower harvesting rate has so far resulted in a reduced industrial activity.
