Greensleeve; Mediane responds to growing demand for plastic alternatives

The demand for bioplastics as an alternative for your conventional oil-based plastics, is ever growing. Recent developments in European packaging and waste laws, boost that demand even more. But, it’s not just laws that force us to look for alternatives. Retailers, producers and consumers are becoming more and more aware of their carbon footprint and how important it is to become more sustainable. Less plastic means a better world for everyone.

Mediane may have found several possible answers for you on how to reduce your carbon and fossil footprint. They created the Greensleeve programme. Greensleeve packaging sleeves have been developed to achieve a more sustainable world. By making a choice for Greensleeve Bioplastics as an alternative to traditional oil-based products, you help to save on fossil fuels, reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to the realization of a circular economy. With Greensleeve you can choose between several sustainable alternatives for oil-based plastics, such as Home-Compostable, Industrial-Compostable, Bio-Based and Paper. “Due to recent changes in the packaging market it is now much easier to discuss the benefits of alternative packaging solutions and reducing your carbon footprint. It has even become a standard topic of discussion.” According to Robert van der Laan, founder of Mediane. “The developments in Bio-Plastics are going faster than ever, and our customers expect some answers to that.”

So, to meet the demands of the customers and rising awareness of bioplastics, Mediane came up with previously mentioned “Greensleeve ”. Under this name they now produce several compostable packaging solutions under EN 13432 Industrial compostable as well as Home-Compostable, but also Biobased PE from sugarcane that can be recycled with traditional plastics. Paper packaging is now also available at Greensleeve .

The market for bioplastics keeps on developing and it’s not only the packaging material that has more variety these days. Now, also the way to apply your plastic is being looked at under a magnifying glass.

Mediane now introduces a sleeve from home compostable material that has a center-perforation, which allows you to tear off the top part so the bottom part functions as a plant pot. This way the plant can be placed in soil and will be composted entirely. Now this “multi-purpose” bioplastic packaging can be thrown away together with other biodegradable waste in your green bin.
