"We need more consumption of stone fruit"

The Northwest Swiss fruit growers want to make the consumers increasingly 'hungry' for stone fruit. "Maybe we should hire a lateral thinker." This important statement was made by by Hansruedi Wirz, fruit producer and president of the product center Kirschen/Zwetschgen, in his speech at the 9th Northwest Swiss Fruit Farming Conference 2019 at the Ebenrain Center in Sissach. as reported by the Solothurner Zeitung.

"We need more consumption of stone fruit," he stated, "and are dependent on advertising and the fact that the entire industry, from producers through to trade and specialist departments to regional associations, has to pull together."

Thinking outside the box
Since he could remember, plums would be sold in the same packaging. But now the question arises: Is all that still up-to-date? Although cherries have a different image than the plums, the Queen of Summer Fruits does has some room for improvement. He asked the audience to consider where and how new consumers could be reached. "We need new ideas, we need innovation!", He shouted into the auditorium. "We need to think outside the box!"
