It seems as if next week will bring better results for Italian pears. That is what FreshPlaza gathered from an analysis conducted by an expert.
Despite the strong competition coming from the Benelux’s Conference pears – which are sold at low prices – the market placement of Italian goods is aligned with the sales budget.
Starting from a lower production than in 2017 (William and Max Red Bartlett), every main variety will decrease by 8%-17% compared to the same period in 2018.
The Abate variety is in most demand – its prices are slightly lower than in 2018 as a consequence of the Benelux Conference competition. However, prices are increasing as there are fewer quantities. The biggest increases should occur with regard to largest-sized fruit.
Despite the delay, the last part of the marketing phase is expected to be positive for French William pear variety.
The demand for Kaiser pears is still very low – especially within the international market. However, this variety’s marketing schedule is usually later than others. Thus, it should improve, starting from the end of January onward.
