Ayelet Lantzer, Adafresh:

"Our strength is to supply our customers a full line of quality herbs year round”

Adafresh continues to be focused on and to develop in the fresh herb market. While growing in Israel, Adafresh simultaneously established a complete infrastructure of fresh herb supplies in Kenya. "If Israel has a limited supply on a certain variety, we can make a complementary plan to have a full supply from Kenya", says director Ayelet Lantzer.

For the time being, while Israel’s herb acreage remains fairly stable, (although water and labor costs have risen sharply), Kenyan production is increasing as many growers moving from flowers to fresh herbs. Competition in the herb sector is tough. "The number of players has sharply increased in recent years but yet, there is space to grow and to expand the market", says Ayelet. "Our strength is supplying our customers with a full line of quality herbs year round from our distribution centre in Maasdijk."

According to Adafresh's director, basil is unrivalled as a herb in terms of popularity. Customers are increasingly looking for herbs with a longer shelf life, so the product needs to be as fresh as possible when it reaches them," says Ayelet. Those customers are mainly to be found on the European market. “We are increasingly exporting to Scandinavia, but also to Eastern European countries. In Poland, the herb market is developing strongly."

During the upcoming Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Adafresh will be introducing Israeli Medjoul dates as a complement to its herbal range. "We were looking to expand our line with a value added exotic products and Medjoul dates are a fitting into this window .
