Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson hired as new CEO of Eimskip

The Board of Directors of Eimskipafélag Íslands has appointed Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson as the company’s new CEO. He is due to start on January 24. Vilhelm has been Managing Director of Corporate and Investment Banking at Íslandsbanki hf. for the past years. Eimskip advertised the role in early December last year. Hagvangur assisted Eimskip in the hiring process.

Vilhelm has been with Íslandsbanki for 20 years where he has undertaken diverse and demanding tasks, for a long period as a senior manager, as well as having been a member of the bank’s executive board. In his work he has gained vast knowledge and experience in financial markets and company management, which will be valuable in his new role at Eimskip.

Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson, pending CEO of Eimskipafélag Íslands:
“I am very grateful for being trusted to lead Eimskip, a solid company in a sound business. I will be joining an excellent team of employees and managers with great experience in transportation and I am very much looking forward to working with them. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Íslandsbanki where I have been working in a constantly evolving and demanding environment. The experience I have gained will prove useful in my new role leading Eimskip forward, building on the solid foundations already laid.”

Baldvin Þorsteinsson, Chairman of Eimskip’s Board: “By appointing Vilhelm, Eimskip will have a strong leader who has proven to be successful in motivating his team to achieve a common goal and deliver results. He possesses insight and knowledge of company management after his career at Íslandsbanki, being accustomed to working in a dynamic and ever changing environment, as well as having the vision needed to lead Eimskip forward.

It should be noted on this occasion that our grandfathers were brothers and our fathers founded the seafood company Samherji, along with Vilhelm´s uncle, 35 years ago. Our fathers parted ways in business 20 years ago. Since then, there have been no financial or business interests between us or our families.

Eimskip’s Board of Directors was unanimous in appointing Vilhelm as CEO. The Board welcomes him to the company, has high expectations and is looking forward to working with him.”
