Data from the Xinfadi Market shows that the current wholesale price of spinach is between 1 and 1.7 yuan [0.15-0.27 USD] per 0.5 kg. This is a price decrease of 6.9% in comparison with last week and 10% in comparison with the same period last year.
Liu Tong, head of the statistical department at Xinfadi Market, stated that the current spinach supply to Xinfadi mainly comes from Shandong and Hebei. The spinach from Hebei comes in open boxes and is packaged according to customer demand. The price is slightly higher than spinach from Shandong which comes pre-packaged.
The main reason for the price decrease is increased supply. The wholesale price of spinach in Liaocheng, a major spinach production area in Shandong, dropped below 1 yuan [0.15 USD] per 0.5 kg when spinach began to enter the market in bulk. The overall surface area devoted to spinach plantation in Liaocheng is growing, which is why the price is currently lower than it was around this time last year.
