Produce price is increasing as a consequence of bad weather

Prices suddenly increased as a consequence of a shortages.  Many different productions experienced such an increase, especially the southern ones. Emile Fellini confirmed this current trend. He is the co-owner of the “Fellini Patrizio” marketing company.

Fennels packaged by Fellini

Fellini stated, “We were expecting supplying issues as persistent rains in November slowed down the transplanting, in southern Italy. On the other hand, some areas experienced drought thus making the transplanting particularly difficult. After that, the frost wave caused the loss of a big part of the harvest”.

Lettuce is not much available, in this period. Or, in other words, it is very difficult to find high-quality lettuce.

Lamberto Giovanardi, marketing manager, said that “prices increased as less produce was available. Just think of the artichokes, lettuce and courgettes. The situation is quite complicated for fennels as well, as they are the first produce that experience frost damage”.

Radish packaged in glasses and in small bunches

Parsely is almost unfindable, and its price has extremely increased. Giovanardi continued, “The market keeps demanding produce according to the usual standards. However, it is very difficult to find good-quality produce, nowadays. Fortunately, we can rely on different suppliers and farming companies spread all around Italy. Thanks to them, we can satisfy the requests both in terms of quantity and quality”.

Climate conditions slowed down lettuce growth, as well. In some areas in southern Italy, many greenhouse productions were lost because of the persistent sub-zero temperatures and snowfalls (as courgette, for instance).

However, this is the ideal moment for the radicchio. Fellini can rely on a specialised company for this produce: they farm red radicchio which is included in the Freschissimi product line, with its own packaging.
