Michel Schrijnemakers, Veiling Zuid-Limburg:

"Industry fruit revival stabilizes market"

There has been a somewhat higher demand for top fruit in recent weeks. This is according to Michel Schrijnemakers, Veiling Zuid-Limburg's Director. This auction house is in located in the Dutch town of Margraten.

"Sales were already good around the festive season. Dutch retailers sold well. We also did a fair amount of export. This was for both apples and pears. We, however, still have enough product. This slight upswing is, therefore, very welcome."

"WIth pears, it is the small sizes, in particular, that are having a hard time. They are certainly not going for top prices. With apples, we see the market for industry fruit - peeling and lower quality apples - is doing a bit better."

"It is always good when there is a bit of extra money coming in. This stabilizes the market. If it goes up, the rest must follow", concludes Michel.
