Mexico: The Coliman company will sell plantains directly to China

Juan Nuñez Cuellar, a commercial representative of the Coliman company, stated that they were about to open the Chinese market for their bananas, as there were only a few details to negotiate of the commercial protocol. "However, we believe that it is on the right track. Opening this market to bananas would be a very important opportunity for us, not only because of the amount of people that live in China, but also because this is the leading product of our company and we send it to different parts of the world."

Nuñez Cuellar said that sector was worried because they thought the president of the United States, Donald Trump, wanted to block Mexican products, but that fortunately many companies, including Coliman, already exported their products to other markets.

He said that they used to market 100% of their product to the US, but that things had changed. "Now we market 20 or 30 percent of it to the US market, and 70 percent to other countries; so this was good for us, it forced us to look for more distant external markets and that favored us very much," he said.
