Vegetable price stopped rising, started falling

Constant increase of vegetable supply from areas around Shouguang, Shandong

The Shouguang vegetable price index recently fell by 6.8% to 97.81 points. The trade volume increased by 4%.

According to analysts, the reasons for this development are as follows: first, there has been relatively little rain or snow in the areas around Shouguang, and the temperature slightly increased in most production areas. The vegetable supply from within Shandong and from nearby production areas outside the provinces therefore constantly grows and the price consequently falls. Second, the growing conditions and transport conditions of vegetables significantly improved as the weather cleared up. Market demand remained weak, which put a limit on price increase. Third, the vegetable market is entering a period of "southern vegetables transported north" where vegetables from south China are transported in large volumes and enter the market in bulk. This is naturally followed by lower prices as supply exceeds demand.
