Belgian wholesaler’s Marna took over wholesaler’s Cofru as of 1 January. This has been confirmed by Patrick Peumans of Marna. “We had a friendly relationship. When we left the auction, we also brought goods for Cofru and dropped these off. Besides, Cofru’s owner is getting on in age, and although his sons want to continue working for the company, they didn’t feel up to taking on all of the responsibility. That’s why the talks regarding the takeover were gradually started,” Patrick says.
Marna is a wholesaler’s of fruit and vegetables with branches in Brussels and Liège on the early market. As of last year, they’ve worked with Oresto Food Partners to deliver the fruit and vegetables to their customers. Pro-Food came about through this cooperation, and they distribute the Oresto products and fresh vegetables, meat and fish in Limburg.
“Cofru supplies about 70 to 80 institutions, restaurants and shops, and this is a good addition to the clientele and to grow regarding turnover. Besides, Cofru also exports to Germany, and they have a share of frozen vegetables and other products for food service in their range, and this connects to our other company, Pro-Food,” Patrick continues. “Cofru and Pro-Food had some overlapping customers, and the delivery routes can now be geared to each other better.”
As of 1 January, Cofru’s customers have been implemented with Pro-Food. Pro-Food will be the new standard bearer, although Marna will continue to be the umbrella company. “Besides fruit and vegetables, Pro-Food also supplies meat, fish and non-food to food service. The advantage for customers of Cofru is that they’ll now have one central point where they can buy everything,” Patrick concludes.
