Rolf Weber, Global Producers: “On our way to 1,500 containers?”

First Costa Rican watermelons and yellow melons shipped

“The first watermelons and yellow melons from Costa Rica were shipped for export to Europe on 2 January,” says Rolf Weber of Global Producers from Venlo, the Netherlands.

The first cargo consists of 21 containers of watermelons and yellow melons, which left on the Hamburg Süd / Hapag Lloyd service from Puerto Limon last weekend. “We’ll be increasing volumes in the coming weeks, and in week 3 we’ll also start with the export of Cantaloupe, Galia and miniature watermelons,” Rolf says.

“The expected productions and quality are very good due to the perfect weather circumstances in recent weeks. Because of this, we expect our export will be 10 to 15 per cent higher compared to recent years, so that we’ll hopefully reach 1,500 containers.”
