“We have some minor supply difficulties in the South-West of France,” explains Bernard Mascot, manager of the Food Development Services company. The weather conditions are not helping. Lots of clouds, very little sun and a drop in temperatures have slowed down the growth of the lettuce. The lower temperatures of the past few days will probably make the situation worse in the South-West. In the South-East of France, the last few difficult campaigns seem to have led some producers to switch their production. Consequently, the merchandise is not very abundant and even though “the markets are not euphoric” after the holidays, the market is facing a half-hearted demand.
The end of a complicated logistics period?
“It is true that the social situation has created problems. Roads and highways were often the target of the ‘yellow vests’’ movement. The last few months have been very laborious. Transporters have accomplished miracles to carry out their role in the logistics chain of distribution of fruits and vegetables. The logistics were not done the usual way, but thanks to the brilliance which they are known for.” Between Christmas and New Year, the road blockages had decreased significantly.
