Austrian onion and carrot market week 51:

Onion prices soaring, carrot prices unchanged

The positive price trend on the Austrian onion market is continuing for another week. Shortly before the Christmas holidays, sales in the local food retailing sector have increased significantly. On the supply side, on the other hand, the available quantities remain limited.

On the one hand, marketing is well underway for many farmers. On the other hand, some products are not selling well. Producer prices rose again last week. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the crate, depending on the quality and size, between €36-40 per 100 kgs were paid.

Stable carrot market
The Lower Austrian carrot market is showing just how stable it can be. German sales figures just before the Christmas holidays are satisfying. Ongoing promotions in food retail are also stimulating business. Furthermore, exports can also be processed on a smaller scale. Pricewise, there are no large changes compared to last week. In January, in view of the scarce supply situation, rising prices are to be expected.
