Mini vegetables are always an eye-catcher on the Christmas dinner table. Caterers and private chefs certainly appreciate this when the days are short. Mini-carrots, mini leeks and mini zucchinis; they are all selling well at the moment. The Patty Pan - a mini pumpkin variety is very much in demand. "We actually have these mini-vegetables in our assortment all year round. Around Christmas time, however, sales go up significantly; an estimated 50-100 percent, said a buyer of the Swiss gas supplier MUNDO AG.
Satisfactory demand
Mundo AG currently offers its customers mini-vegetables from two sources: South African produce and products from France - the Prince de Bretagne brand. "The French are very focused on certain products in this segment. The mini pumpkins are actually selling well year-round, primarily as a decorative article in the catering trade."
Due to the large demand for mini-vegetables, gastronomy suppliers have to pre-order in time to provide their customers with enough goods. "There have been some bottlenecks in this segment in recent years. That's why we made our arrangements with our South African suppliers more than a month ago. Of course, then there were the strikes in France, the effects of which we are also feeling."
