Recently, the cherry tomato nursery, Sweet Lions from Grubbenvorst in the Netherlands, expanded their cherry tomato acreage by 5 hectares. On 11 December, the first plants went into the greenhouse. Meanwhile, the machinery has also been expanded to handle the increased productions. "We are eager to start the new season", says Jordan van Leeuwen.
The new equipment includes three new crate turners, that were supplied by Burg Machinefabriek. One new crate turner is already placed in front of the new Aweta sorting machine, the second near an extra filling and packaging line. And the last turner replaces the old turner that has already been in use for twenty years and needed replacing; this one will be installed just before the harvest in February.
The choice for Burg turners was not difficult for Jordan. "We have inquired at other suppliers, but we work as much as possible with fixed relations, and these turners are just decent machines. I also come across them at more and more growers."
New to the crate turners is that they are fully operated by electric power, so that no unhygienic hydraulic systems are used in the machine. By means of the dosing system, the product is carefully moved from the crate to the conveyor belt. Thanks to automatic detection, the turners are suitable for all crate sizes and can be fed from three directions.
