China: "First Luzon mangoes from the Philippines arrive in Wuhan"

"The first shipment of Luzon mangoes from the Philippines arrived in Wuhan on December 17th, 2018. The shipment consists of 4 pallets of 80 boxes each. Half the boxes weigh 5 kg and the other half weighs 10 kg per box." This is according to Hu Kehuang of Wuhan 12 Islands Co., Ltd.

"The mango supply season lasts all year in the Philippines and their mangoes are well-known as one of the tastiest mangoes in the world. The mangoes achieve an absolute perfect balance between sweet and sour, and their fragrance is unique. Other mangoes are unable to match them. Furthermore, the mangoes in the Philippines are allowed to mature naturally. Every mango spends around 110 days on the tree before it is harvested."

"The price of mangoes from the Philippines is relatively high in comparison with the prices of other mangoes in Southeast Asia. The average price of mangoes from the Philippines in high-end supermarkets is 35-45 yuan [5.08-6.53 USD] per piece. The average weight is 250-300g. Still, market demand always exceeds supply, especially in high-end dessert shops. Philippine mangoes are extremely popular in desserts. The main reason is the sweet flavor, which is quite suitable for desserts, but also the high percentage of fruit flesh at 80% and the near absence of fibers."

"Everybody knows that China has high standards for the product quality, pesticide residue, and treatment of imported fruit. Only a few orchards in the Philippines can meet these requirements. The orchards we cooperate with used to export their mangoes to Japan and Korea."

"Most of the mangoes in our first imported shipment will be supplied to customers, but some of them will serve as sample fruit in promotional activities. We mainly sell our mangoes in supermarkets and other offline, high-end dessert stores. Some of them will be sold in the wholesale market."
