Price maintains high position

China: Dwarf bananas are slow to mature as temperatures in Guangxi and Guangdong drop

Mainstream dwarf bananas of good quality cost 6.4-7.4 yuan [0.93-1.07 USD] per kg in Guangdong production areas on December 14th, 2018. However, as the temperatures drop, the dwarf bananas mature more slowly. Supply from the Pearl River Delta dwindles. The price remains high. In some areas the price of top-quality dwarf bananas is as much as 7.6 yuan [1.10 USD] per kg.

Mainstream dwarf bananas of good quality cost 6.4-7.4 yuan [0.93-1.07 USD] per kg in Guangxi production areas, but temperatures in this area also dropped and supply slowed down. The previous cold wave hit the banana market, but dwarf bananas are generally more cold resistant.

The price of bananas in Yunnan production areas remains stable. However, some dwarf banana production areas in the mountains of Xishuangbanna suffer from excessive rainfall. Combined with lower temperatures in recent days mean that in Yunnan too the supply of dwarf bananas is slower than usual.
