The innovative broccoli hummus prepared by the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has won the second edition of the Covirán Foundation Awards, which aims to raise awareness about healthy and sustainable eating.
Covirán stressed how difficult it was to choose the winning product between the 18 finalists. The winner is a hummus containing 53% broccoli and a vegetable base, minimally processed under high-pressure hydrostatic technology and with a refrigerated shelf life of 28 days at a temperature of five degrees Celsius.
This broccoli hummus is the successor of the premium guacamole of the La Caña Group, which won the first edition and whose representatives were present at the ceremony of the second edition of the Covirán Foundation Awards.
During the event, the entity highlighted its commitment to an agri-food industry that focuses on healthy and sustainable products. Thus, the Foundation continues to promote both innovation and healthy consumption habits; that is, a diet based on natural ingredients and products that are easy to consume and preserve.
The Covirán Foundation will reward the broccoli hummus of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena with 12,000 Euro. It will also offer support with the product's marketing.
We must not forget that the great challenge for innovative products is, to a great extent, their distribution. In fact, about 80% of consumers discover them in the store.
