‘Yellow vests’ movement: businesses in the Ain lose 11.2 million euros

In five weeks of protests, the ‘yellow vests’ movement has had a considerable negative impact on businesses. In the Ain department, losses were recorded at 11.2 million euros [12.7 million USD] for the four weekends of protests, according to the Economic Observatory of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The figures range from -35% of sales for the major commercial areas and shopping centers to -20% for the non-major businesses. Only the local stores managed to do relatively well and limit their losses.

Some retailers hope to recover part of this loss when business will resume as usual, although this will benefit the consumer products more than the fresh products.
