New packaging from New Zealand cherry grower

One of New Zealand’s largest growers and packer of fresh cherries, “45 South” based in Cromwell is about to launch a new 1 pound/454 gram consumer pack to its customers in China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and the USA.

Sales and Marketing Manager, Richard Cameron, says “Our new consumer packs tick all the boxes, (excuse the pun) our international customers are looking for.

"These packs are friendly on the environment, look great and are very freight efficient. 45 South cherries can be eaten straight out of the box as they are picked by the stem, once they reach the pack-house they travel through our packing system in cold clean water and are graded and packed using an automated system that requires no human contact with the fruit.

New Zealand unlike some other exporting countries requires no post harvest fumigation. The smaller weight of the consumer packs compared to the traditional 1kg, 2kg and 5kg boxes mean customers can buy these as a snack for lunch or to share with a friend in the office.

"It will also allow people who have never been able to afford New Zealand cherries, due to their premium price, to give them a try. We hope to get even more people eating our sweet, firm Central Otago Cherries.”

The Harvest at 45 South will start on the 16th of December and run through until early February. Fruit quality is expected to be exceptional this season with a slightly lighter crop and more normal growing conditions.
