Production of French ware potatoes at 5,850,000t in 2018

The production of French ware potatoes was 5,850,000 tons this year, compared to 6,473,700 in 2017, a significant decrease of nearly 10% in one year.  It is however not uncommon for these numbers to vary significantly from one year to the next. The French production in 2016 was 5,106,500 tons.

The surfaces, which cover 142,710 ha, were up again by 3.6% compared to last year, after a 5.1% increase 1 year ago. The average gross yield is at about 41 t/ha in 2018, almost 13% lower than last year, with 6t/ha lost in one year. This confirms the trends observed in samples taken by UNPT during the vegetation phase.

These figures correspond to gross harvested yields. Due to regrowth especially, the net yield can sometimes be significantly lower.
