‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ – this age-old English adage can never really go out of fashion. While apples can be bought all year round, their consumption in India goes up in the winter season. Keeping in mind the increased demand, IG International is kicking off its new season by importing a total of 7 varieties of exceptional-quality apples from Stemilt Growers, the Washington-based leading organic fruit growing, packing and shipping company. On this occasion, West Mathison, President of Stemilt Growers, recently visited Mumbai, Bangalore and Cochin to kick off the winter season.
With the aim of importing 20,000 MT of apples in the new season, IG International in the last season imported seven different varieties of this fruit from Stemilt Growers – Red Delicious, Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Pinata, Pink lady, Honeycrisp, organic variety with the first two remaining the hero varieties. It will also import organic apples to cater to the preferences of health-conscious Indians. With this season, IG International completes 10 years of its strong and successful association with Stemilt Growers.
Commenting on the occasion, Tarun Arora, Director, IG International said, “Over the last few years, India’s consumption of international varieties of apples has risen significantly. Especially, in winters, we witness a drastic increase in the demand for apples in the country. Considering the nutritional properties it contains, the fruit has always been on the recommendation list of health experts. With this in mind, we decided to import as many as 7 varieties of apples from Stemilt Growers to India.”
