The arrival of more migrants at the border and the warnings made by President Donald Trump, who says he'll close the border, have increased the fear that this situation will affect trade between both countries. In the case of vegetables, the problem could be much greater, stated Mario Haroldo Robles Escalante.
The manager of the Commission for the Investigation and Defense of Vegetables, said Trump's threats are real because he does not care if exports are affected and the economies of the borders of both countries are destabilized.
"Even though Nogales is not an important point at this time, we would be worried if this situation extends to Nogales and affects the export of perishables," he said.
Robles Escalante said he didn't expect this issue would extend so far and that he hoped it would be resolved before the season begins to take shape.
