This year, ProHass will organize the First International Avocado Congress in Peru, a technical and scientific event that will showcase the main advances and updates to improve the production and the quality of avocado cultivation.
This first Congress will be held on December 11 and 12 at Lima's Convention Center and the organizers expect some 300 people will attend it, including associates, technicians, producers, and members of the sector, both national and foreign. The organizers have invited national and international specialists, advisors, and researchers to the event.
The Congress will address issues such as: A non-destructive model to determine physiological maturity; Integrated management of insects and mites; Wood mushrooms and flowering mushrooms in Peru; The importance of phytosanitary applications; Regulations for the production of avocado trees in nurseries; Culture nutrition in different areas of Peru; and the importance of irrigation and fertigation.
Other topics include: Biotechnology studies in avocados; Pre-harvest factors that affect the post-harvest; Post-harvest and avocado quality; the Avocado's reproductive biology; Fertilization and use of hormones to increase calibres; the importance of pruning in crop management; Hass avocado exports to the United States, Europe and Asia; among other issues.
The general manager of ProHass, Arturo Medina Castro, said that the association sought to showcase Peru's avocado production to the world. He also said that they firmly believed this kind of event promoted the optimization of crop management to produce more and higher quality fruit, as well as help solve different productive chain issues by identifying the current problems that avocado producing and exporting companies face.
