Placement of 10.360 solar panels at Weyers in Fresh Park Venlo starts

The Weyers Group is not only active in the area of cultivation, sorting, and packaging of fresh fruit and vegetables. This Dutch company also transports and trades (import and export) these products. In the Netherlands, the group has branches in Venlo, De Lier, Dirkshorn, Zeewolde, and Weeze. They also have a site in Geldern in Germany.

The work on installing the solar panels at Weyers GmbH's Fresh Park Venlo location kicked off this month.

At the moment, 10.360 solar panels are being placed on the 30.000 m² roof. These panels have a total capacity of 3.574 kWp. The installation will generate more than 3 million kilowatts per hour of power per year. The company purposefully opted for an east-west setup. This was done so they can use as much of the electricity as possible in-house. They want to replace as much 'gray' electricity with the eco-friendly 'green' electricity.

The aim of this project is to generate more than 50% of the necessary electricity themselves, in a sustainable way. In addition, on sunny days, a large amount of electricity will be made available to other companies and households. This will be done via the grid. This power can easily be used by other companies at Fresh Park Venlo or the city of Venlo. It can even be used by the Grubbenvorst Municipality. The solar park is one of the largest in the Dutch province of Limburg. It should be ready to begin production at the start of February 2019.

The goal is to, eventually, be completely sustainable and CO² neutral. The installation of these solar panels brings that goal within very easy reach. Since geothermal heat provides the building with the required heat energy, it also has no gas connection.

This green footprint is also being expanded within the Weyers Group. The next solar panel project is already in the preparation phase.
