Last week, Polish police officials found cocaine worth €11 mln, coming from Ecuador and hidden in boxes of bananas. The drugs originally were detected by grocery shop assistants, who were dumbfounded to discover 9 kg of cocaine hidden in the cardboard boxes.
“We are investigating into the identity of the individual who sent the shipment to Poland and whom it was supposed to reach,” said junior police inspector Antoni Rzeczkowski. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the police did not provide any further information.
Polish tabloid Fakt claims that around 100 packages of cocaine have reached six shops in the Łódzkie province, five in the province’s capital Łódź. It also alleged that 30 kg of cocaine made it to a shop in the town of Wyszków, in the province of Mazowsze.
According to polandin.com, the intercepted packages have already been handed over for laboratory examination. The estimated value of the drugs amounts to PLN 50 mln (€11 mln). This certainly is not the only event of its type, as in December 2015 and 2016 the police also intercepted banana boxes full of drugs.
