The president of the Association the Producers of Bananas of Colombia (Augura), Juan Camilo Restrepo Gomez, will participate in the fifteenth version of the World Banana Forum. The event will be held on November 28 and 29 at the facilities of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome (Italy).
"Attending the World Banana Forum, as it does every year, is essential for Augura. This event allows us to discuss the problems and opportunities of the banana sector at a high level. The forum is also important because its attendees are able to exchange experiences, and the implementation of new and better practices that help the industry progress," said the president of the union.
The forum will be attended by the presidents and representatives of the most important marketers, producers, and associations from around the world, who will discuss, among other things, the current global threats to the environmental sustainability of bananas, such as the construction of the global network of prevention against the propagation of the black sigatoka (RT4), the most destructive and economically expensive disease in banana crops worldwide.
They will also address other issues, such as: the costs of sustainable production, the standard of living for workers in the banana sector, and the strengthening of social and labor relations in the world banana industry.
