The largest greenhouse in the Czech Republic, which is located in the Karvina region, has started operations. According to the ČTK Monika Zábojníková agency, of the agricultural company Farma Bezdínek, the greenhouse will yield an estimated 3,000 tons of vegetables a year.
Now that the first phase of the project has ended, there are 5.2 hectares available for cultivation. Once the second stage is completed, the total extension is expected to reach 11 hectares. At the moment, there are nearly 70 people working in the facilities, but after the enlargement, that number will double.
The company stated that the walls of the greenhouse had been obscured so that the light from the interior does not cause light pollution, and that they have a method to capture the rainwater and use it in their crops.
