Sales grew 7 percent

Bananas and tomatoes are the top-selling organic products in Switzerland

Sales of organic vegetables and organic fruits in the retail sector continue to grow strongly. The top-selling organic vegetables are tomatoes, carrots and hot peppers. For organic fruits, bananas, apples and lemons are the leading products, according to the Federal Office for Agriculture (BLW).

Growth of 7 percent
From September 2017 to August 2018, 46,663 tonnes of organic vegetables worth CHF 390 million were sold in the Swiss retail sector. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this represents an increase in sales of 7%. The year before, organic vegetable sales actually grew by 12%. Noteworthy is the increase, in particular, because sales of conventional vegetables fell by 3% over the same period.
