The director of the Center for Economic and Social Studies of the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (Cohep), Santiago Herrera, said that the country would export more than 32 million boxes of bananas this year, which would account for more than 500 million dollars in foreign currency.
"According to data from the Central Bank, exports would amount to more than 522 million dollars but we think that nearly 30 million boxes won't reach average prices, which could slightly offset a fall in terms of value. All I can say is that prices have improved," he added.
Meanwhile, the representative of the Department of Agriculture of the United States (USDA), Ana Gomez, said that Honduran exports had increased year after year since 2013.
"This trend is always increasing. Honduran agricultural exports continue to increase thanks to all the producers who are making a great effort," she said.
According to official data, the annual exports of the agricultural sector exceed 4 billion dollars in foreign exchange.
