The price of wax gourds showed an increasing trend last week. The main reason for this development is the small volume of wax gourds on the market. The category of wax gourds includes white gourds, green hanging gourds, and green earth gourds. The average price of earth gourds is around 1-1.2 yuan [0.14-0.17 USD] per kg, and the price of hanging gourds is around 1.6-1.7 yuan [0.23-0.24 USD] per kg. The white wax gourd from Jiangsu arrived on the market last week, but their quality was below standard, and the price is only 1 yuan [0.14 USD] per kg. The product quality of white wax gourds from Zhongmou and Zhoukou is better, and their price is 1.4 yuan [0.20 USD] per kg.
The main reasons for the price increase of wax gourds last week are as follows: the market supply of wax gourds from Zhongmou and Zhoukou is in its final stage, and the gourds from Jiangsu have not yet entered the market in large volumes. The current market supply of wax gourds is relatively small. Supply is unable to meet demand and so the price increased. Furthermore, the overall vegetable market suffered from the aftermath of a typhoon in Guangdong last month. Of course, wax gourds suffered from the typhoon as well, and the reduced production volume in Guangdong futher increased the price.
