The most popular potatoes are still those used for deep fried potato products. Fried potato products remain immensely popular with consumers, but the demand for other potatoes also continues to increase.
Price changes
The price of potatoes has been relatively stable in recent years. One notable exception was 2016 when poor weather conditions significantly reduced the production volume, while market demand remained strong, which caused the price to increase. The production volume recovered in 2017, as did the market price. The highest price was 5 yuan [0.72 USD] per 0.5 kg, but it quickly came down to 3.1 yuan [0.45 USD] per 0.5 kg.
Plantation prospects
Several elements affect potato plantation prospects. First, the potato market has not been particularly flourishing in recent years. Second, and potato export has declined in recent years. The potato production volume remains high. In some production areas the price has dropped below 1 yuan [0.14 USD] per 0.5 kg. In other words, the prospect for potatoes is not great.
