Ersin Durak, a grower in Carsamba, Samsun, a city located in northeastern Turkey, has built a 3,000 square meter fully automated greenhouse and has managed not only to lower production costs but also managed to move the harvest time to an earlier date.
This digital greenhouse is equipped with automated fertilization, ventilation and irrigation systems. As a result, water and fertilizer costs for the grower went down drastically in this tomato greenhouse where the grower grows tomatoes in coco peat soil. Currently the grower aims for 20 tons of production annually with plans to increase it more in the future.
The grower underlined the importance of the productivity per square meter and quality of products whilst expressing his aspirations to fully digitalize the production to the point of being able to manage it through only one remote control. Currently the grower is managing different systems through different control mechanisms but exploring the ways to unify them in one control platform.
