Richard Bevelander, De Groot van Dommele:

“Small sizes dominate Spanish citrus supply, but demand is good”

Last month, the Spanish citrus season started with the first Okitsu tangerines under the Hartenboer brand for De Groot van Dommele. “Sizes are small, but demand is good,” says Richard Bevelander. “Besides, we’re receiving luxury tangerines under the Marie Jose brand in 12 kilograms.”

“South Africa was on the market with Nadorcott for a fairly long time, but that season has now finished, and a lot of people are looking for good Spanish tangerines,” the importer says. De Groot van Dommele serves their national customers from locations in Breda and Hedel, both in the Netherlands, every day.

This year, the wholesaler introduces a special packaging for clemenules in 12-kilogram packaging under the familiar Hartenboer brand. “This supply will also mostly consist of small sizes, although it will take a few weeks before this supply arrives,” Richard continues.

“We also started with the first Spanish Clementines under the Nr 5 brand, the first Marisol tangerines were packed under Hartenboer, and we now also started with the first Navelinas. There aren’t a lot of large sizes, but demand is good, and they’re selling well,” Richard concludes.
