International Asparagus Days

Positive feedback, especially from foreign exhibitors, for the first Italian edition of the International Asparagus Day. Around 2000 people visited the fair on 16th and 17th October 2018, 38% of which came from abroad. Almost half of the exhibitors came from abroad and especially from Germany, the Netherlands and France.

The Dutch René Meijers, who attended the fair with his daughter Anniek, was also pleased: "I've met people from all over the world. There weren't too many of us, but we were all specialized, which is important." The last similar event took place six years ago.

Frederic Angier from France said that he'd never "been to Cesena and was impressed by the organization and positive feedback. At this point, I'd like to attend Macfrut, too."

Hermann Neubauer, founder of Neubauer Automation (Germany), displayed one of its Espaso model, a sorting and grading machine for green and white asparagus. "The fact that the fair is so specialized is important, as we could talk to producers and technicians we were actually interested in. We established new contacts and met old clients but, most of all, we've had unexpected results with good sales."

JJ Shuurman commented for LimGroup, a Dutch group specializing in varietal research that attended the fair with Royal Seeds distributors. "We noticed the good quality of the contacts as there were many producer countries on an international level."

Bagioni Technology from Forlì displayed green and white asparagus harvesters. Aurenzo Bagioni has no doubt about it: "although it is only a niche fair, it was the perfect occasion to exchange opinions and contacts in an ever-evolving market. There were many participants from Latin America and France, though some of the British producers were missing."

Marco Mingozzi from Mingozzi Group illustrated the functioning of a new flame weeding machine. "International Asparagus Days went very well, as all who attended were operators and came from different countries."

"It's the confirmation that a highly-specialized fair aiming at reaching the international market is a great opportunity for the sector. The format was unique and combines the strength of the Cesena Fiera organisation and the availability of a test field. We will discuss about the future of this event over the next few days, as we've had requests from all over the world and even from China (photo of the Chinese delegation below)," explains Cesena Fiera president Renzo Piraccini.
