The Onions Australia AGM and Conference is on in Ulverstone on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 October. There is an exciting program on offer including a not to be missed presentation from international onion expert, Fred Crowe at 2pm on the Levy Payer Information Day, being held on the Friday.
Dr Crowe retired in 2007 as Emeritus Professor of Botany and Plant Pathology at the Oregon State University. He now serves as a consultant on garlic, onions, carrots, peppermint and other crops, and his main clients are large Western US-based garlic and onion companies together with many small garlic producers both domestically and internationally.
During his time in Australia, Dr Crowe will also be attending and speaking at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture’s open day on October 10, presenting to local industry and growers at Forth Football Club on October 17 at 5pm (all welcome), participating in a meeting with the Tasmanian Onion Agronomy Group, and visiting numerous farms during his stay.
Other activities during the Onions Australia conference include presentations from AgNova, Safe Ag Systems, Terranova, as well as OA Chairman Peter Shadbolt and OA CEO Lechelle Earl. We’ll also receive an update on Monsanto Seminis.
Delegates are invited to join the OA Executive Committee members for a tour of Dobmac Machinery, followed by a grower walk on farm on the Thursday. A bus will leave from Pier 01, Ulverstone at 12pm.
