An investiment of 1.5 million euros

The walnut supply chain works: new plant inaugurated

On the 11th of October 2018, New Factor inaugurated their new walnut processing plant, costing 1.5 million euros. A zero-km supply chain, with the walnut plants just a few meters away, by the San Martino di Forlì company.

Davide Drei, mayor of Forlì, cut the inaugural ribbon of the new plant together with Alessandro Annibali of New Factor and Azienda Agricola San Martino CEO, Eugenia Bergamaschi (president of Confagricoltura Emilia-Romagna), Paolo Maggioli (president of Confindustria Romagna), Jasmina Annibali (New Factor marketing manager) and Tito Annibali.

In the plant, the green walnuts produced by the partner companies – including San Martino – are dried, calibrated and selected.

The new warehouse occupies an area of 1.000 sqm, added to the existing structure. Thus, there is a total of 2.000 sqm in which we reorganised the work. The new line is provided with software that allows saving processing time, thus increasing the qualitative standards.

Some of these features include: an optical selection control, an interconnection with the corporate web network and remote assistance, an electronic calibration system with quality and goods selection of the finished product.

Sorting phase

In a normal 45-day-harvesting season, the production capacity is over 1.500 tons of shelled dry walnuts. The total investment for new processing plants is of 1.5 million euros.

Drying phase

Alessandro Annibali of New Factor and Azienda Agricola San Martino CEO, explained, “Today’s inauguration fills us with pride and satisfaction. New Factor and San Martino have been believing and investing in the walnut supply chain, for 20 years. The market is increasingly interested in dried fruits, and this new achievement will allow us to be more competitive”.

Last manual sorting

“The new plant will enable our partners to receive the best solutions for the promotion of their own walnuts – as well as providing them with specialised technical assistance.

The inauguration conference

With a systematic idea, New Factor is able to provide support for every phase of the supply chain, from the production to the processing.

The IN-NOCE project currently has 260 hectares growing the Chandler, Howard and Lara varieties with the aim of reaching 300 hectares by 2021. This project represents a landmark for the Italian walnut plantations sector.
