Market Check: Greenpeace targets disposable bags

Kurier.at reports: Approximately 790 million plastic bags are issued in Austria every year; that is around 1600 bags per minute. Austrian supermarkets voluntarily committed themselves in 2016 to come up with measures against the associated waste accumulation.

The "Bag Test" of the environmental protection organization assessed both the supply of reusable bags and the alternatives to the thin, free disposable bags found near fruit and vegetable shelves. These so-called tie bags make up most of the bags in the supermarket.
