China: Refrigerated supply project begins in Nansha area of Guangzhou Port

Construction recently began on the Guangzhou Nansha International Distribution Center (South District) project in Nansha District of Guangzhou City. This four stage engineering project is the first fully automated container terminal in south China. The project is financed through investments from Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhonshan.

The overall investment is estimated at 6.974 billion yuan [1 billion USD]. The planned construction includes 4 container berths with a capacity of 50-100 thousand tons each. The terminal is expected to process an annual volume of 4.9 million standard containers. The project should be completed and in operation by 2021. The new terminal will help Guangzhou Nansha Port to break the record for the  annual processing volume of 18 million containers.

The Guangzhou Nansha International Distribution Center will invest a total of 3.365 billion yuan [490 million USD] divided over two projects in the north and south districts. The Sea Rail Connected Transport project in the north district began operations on August 29th. The Refrigerated Supply project in the south district includes refrigerated warehouses with a capacity of 450 thousand tons.
