France: fruit and vegetable prices above the five year average

Due to a rather restricted offer on most products and weather conditions that were good for demand, the fruit and vegetable market overall in 2018 saw higher prices than the five year average.

Tomatoes in particular saw a high demand but limited offer. Cucumbers were in a similar situation and prices remained above the five year average, despite competition from Spanish imports. The courgette market was unstable with high volumes but low demand, leading to a decrease in prices. The last volumes of peaches and nectarines are selling easily a the moment with prices at an all-time high thanks to a strong demand. The pear season is ending on a good note. The new apple season begins with heavy competition.
