Flooding damages fruit and vegetables in Tunisia

Heavy rain in Nabeul damaged 864 hectares of vegetable crops and orchards covering 794 hectares on the 22nd September. Almost 100 hectares of strawberry productions were damaged. This represents 1 fifth of strawberry acreage (500 hectares/year). Nabeul is Tunisia's leading strawberry producer with production varying between 15,000 to 17,000 tons (99%).

The flooding, however, has not had such serious effects on the 2018-2019 citrus harvest with damaged acreage not reaching more than 1,000 hectares of the 20,000 total hectares. Nabeul's citrus production reaches 305,000 tons/year which is 75% of national production.
