The Gemini basil: an alternative from Sais

Last August Sais introduced a new variety of Italian basil: Gemini.
The new variety, which increases the already wide Sais catalogue of Italian basil, carries an important innovation that gives it a high tolerance to Downy mildew (Peronospora belbharii) and Fusarium (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. basilici).

Basil Gemini- details of open field cultivation

The basil GEMINI was obtained by Sais research activities, exclusively conducted in Italy, intending to contribute to the integrated pest management of basil.

The variety has a compact foliage and is suited to open field and pot cultivation. The leaves, bright green, are smaller and flatter than Superbo, the traditional “Genovese” type.

The variety is high yielding thanks to a fast regrowing characteristic.
Gemini is suited to be cultivated in warm conditions when the pressure of Downy mildew is very high and tolerance can make the difference.
The variety Gemini is under Plant Variety Protection (N° 20172764)
