Thai ginger farmers hope to achieve exports to China

“As a family-owned company, we grow and sell ginger in Thailand. At this stage, we only sell ginger domestically, but considering the increase in production capacity and the demand in overseas markets, we hope to achieve exports, especially to China. Though, if other countries are interested, we are also willing to export our ginger to those countries." Luo Zhenzhu said in an interview with Freshplaza.

“In Thailand, the production season of ginger is divided into two phases. The first phase begins in January and lasts until June. The second supply period begins in April. We'll start harvesting the new season of ginger in October. This year, our production is a little more than last year. But there are two problems: First, there is not enough rain in Thailand this year, and secondly the weather has been too hot. This has a slight impact on our ginger. I think there is a difference between Thai ginger and Chinese ginger due to the different planting environment and climate conditions, both in appearance, quality and taste. I am very optimistic about the development potential of Thai ginger in the Chinese market."
