Italy: 2500 tons expected of Dori' kiwis

Covering golden kiwis with anti-rain and anti-hail nets enables producers to lower the risk of bacteriosis in many areas and safeguard their income. The third Dorì Day was held on 13th September in Latina. The event was organised by Consorzio Dorì Europe to promote the Ac1536 variety. This early golden kiwi should reach 2500 tons in 2018.

 

 

"Consumers who have tried this fruit look for it again. It can be found in retail and specialized stores. In 2019, we're planning on planting another 100-150 hectares in Europe and 150 in the rest of the world. Most of the hectares will be located in Chile, South Africa and Australia," explained President Giampaolo Dal Pane.

 

 

There was also a visit to Mario Peciarca's company. In 2017, he planted 3 hectares of Dosì and production is already very high. "We're quite surprised with this productivity, as trees were only planted 18 months ago. Grades are high, with an average of 170 grams per fruit. It may be because I chose to use a lot of organic matter in the beginning and I repeated my choice the second year."

 

 

This kiwi is extremely early, around 45 days earlier than Haywards collected with 7° Brix. It's appreciated by consumers thanks to its high Brix level and sugar/acidity balance.

 

 

"We're very pleased that so many people attended - there were almost 300 buyers, technicians and producers from all over Italy and abroad as well. Thanks to the good weather of 2018, I believe we will harvest 2500 tons."

 

 

The evening ended with a dinner offered by the consortium and Agrilinea's talk show hosted by Sauro Angelini.
