Chinese garlic price moving upward

As we went through a period of high temperatures, the garlic supply volume in production areas is tight. On the farmer market of Shenyang, the general price for garlic without sprouts remains above 13 RMB per kg. At the same time, the wholesale price in production regions is rising as well. The average price went from 10.6 RMB to 11.1 RMB per kg.

This week approaches autumn. There is plenty of rain in the production regions and the temperatures are going down. Volumes on the market are increasing and export processing industries are stocking up. The high prices in product sources are momentarily easing off. This way, the price for garlic should be adjusted downward. But this week is the last stage for storing garlic without sprouts. After the beginning of (Chinese) autumn, the garlic starts to sprout faster. Garlic loses part of its quality when it sprouts, so the sprouted garlic can only be sold in China or exported to neighbouring countries. So the selling price is lower than garlic without sprouts.

As a result, the price for garlic without sprouts remains high on the market. The price for garlic without sprouts in the Shenyang region has mounted to 14 RMB per kg and it will continue to rise in the near future.
